Simon Denney Master Thatchers uses materials of the highest quality, hand selected by us during regular visits to our suppliers.
Similar material to long straw but prepared differently – cut, combed and stripped by the farmer before delivery. It is laid and dressed into place and finished with wire mesh to give a rounded look and clean finish.
A harder and longer lasting material, usually grown in marshy estuaries (e.g. in Norfolk, south coast, europe). It is also laid and dressed in place, with wire mesh to cap only.
NOTE: When repairing existing roofs, we always try to use materials and methods that blend in with the age and structure of the building.
